The Sun, sea, beach, and children
With the coming of warm summer days most families with children seeking for a refreshment in the beaches along the coast. If you want to avoid all problems that may happen, it is important to prepare everything necessary for a pleasant stay on the beach.
When is the best time to go to the beach?
The best time for going to the beach with children is in the period from 9 am -11 am, and after 4 pm. The time in between is best to use in deep shade or home resting.
How to choose the beach?
Image 1. Sand beach
If it is possible, choose a clean beach with tiny pebbles and sand (Image 1) so the child can walk barefoot. When a child goes to a water, put on his rubber sandals to reduce the possibility of injury.
Beside sunshade, the main protection from harmful sun rays is sunscreen. You have to apply sunscreen at least half an hour before you go out, and the procedure is repeated every 1-2 hours. When you choosing a sunscreen make sure that it is made without chemicals, and that it’s water resistant, so a child’s skin is better protected. SPF (Solar Protection Factor) shows us the average time we can spend in the sun before we get sunburns on the skin. If your skin is lighter, and after ten minutes you start to notice changes on your skin, use a sunscreen with SPF 20, and you will be protected for about 3 hours.
The sunglasses protect children’s eyes from UV-A and UV-B rays over 90%.
A wide-brim hat, baseball cap or hat with an extension for a neck will protect your child from the sun. The best hats are those who are made of natural materials (Image 2).

When the child comes out of the water, put him a dry swimwear to reduce the risk of infection. Also, put on a swimwear to your child while he is playing in the sand, in that way you are protecting the child from injury but also from infections.
Food and drink
Over the summer months, it is important to give children lighter dishes. You can replace snacks and sweets with fresh fruit that you can just take to the beach, cut into small pieces and make a colorful fruit salad. In this way, the fruit will become a tempting and cheerful meal (Image 3). Several times during the day you can offer your child to drink water.

Fun in the water
The child should go slowly and gradually into a water so he could adjust the body temperature to sea temperature. The activities that you can do with the child in the water are jumping, running through the water, which strengthens the muscles of the body due to the resistance that water provides us, teach your child how to actively move, swiming, how can float on the surface, roll and rotate the child and pull him through the water. If a child knows how to swim, dive mask and flippers will reveal him a whole new and interesting world under the sea. Everything that the child finds in the sea (shells, interesting stones, plants, fish and the like.), he can draw in the sand on the beach, or at home on paper.

Swim equipment like floating boards is required for those children who do not yet know how to swim (Image 4). The swimming equipment will protect your child from drowning, but also the child can use it to play and having fun.
Playtime at the beach
Sand and shells are excellent materials whose usage has a direct impact on improving the tactile sensitivity of a child (Image 5) and if we gave to a child some buckets and other plastic toys we encourage the development of coordination, relations left -right, practicing crossing the middle line of the body, and encourage communication. All that greatly helps the proper development of the child. With social card games, picture books, children’s magazines and other plastic toys, playtime on the towel will be interesting.
